Various Classifications of PCBs

Printed Circuit Boards are present in almost all of the electronic devices we have around, except maybe for the simplest designs of electronic devices. The function of a PCB cannot be underestimated, for without them, any device would simply fail to function properly. Do you know their function? They serve as relay stations where electrical signals coming from the different components within a device would be transmitted into. In short, they act as bridges so that the rest of the components can freely communicate with one another. And because the use of these printed circuit boards allows components to communicate with one another, all of the components can already function as a unit or circuit, which is ideally allows the device to be able to do its optimal function and role expected of it.
PCBs are made up of copper tracks that are placed on its surface. These copper tracks run all over the surface. Usually, we see a printed circuit board as colored green, with copper tracks with brownish to gold color on its surface. There are many types of Printed Circuit Boards that are being circulated. They can also be grouped as well into different classifications. For example, they can be grouped according to the number of layers that they have: single, double, or multi-layered Printed Circuit Boards. They can also be classified according to the rigidity of their board: Rigid Flex, Rigid, or Flex Printed Circuit Board. At some times, these device components can also be classified according to the function it does. This classification can reveal different terminologies of these components. For example, printed circuit boards used primarily in the implementation and application of medical equipment are called as medical printed circuit boards, while those in the telecommunications are called as telecom boards.
